Maureen FitzSimons's achievements as a child performer in America (which we refer to as Maureen O'Hara today) would certainly put her in the child-prodigy category. The traits she displayed were normal for an Irish-born child surrounded by gifted parents as well as a loving and supportive family. Maureen was born in Ranelagh which was a suburb in Dublin the capital of Ireland, on 17 August 1920. Marguerita L. FitzSimons had a successful contralto. Charles FitzSimons ran a Dublin firm, as well as had shares in the Irish soccer team Shamrock Rovers. Maureen FitzSimons is the second daughter of Charles FitzSimons. Peggy FitzSimons, Florrie Fitzsimons Charles B. Fitzsimons Margot Fitzsimons rounded out this amazing family. Maureen was a natural athlete and loved playing sporting games. This passion was combined with an equally natural talent for performing. She was the recipient of nearly every Feis Awards for her home country's theater and drama is a testimony to this. At the age of 14 she joined at the Abbey Theater to follow her aspirations and pursue studies in operatic and classical vocals.
